HP7--a review or something
By Vatski
TF Entertainment July 30, 2007 issue
Like many die-hard fans of Harry Potter, when the release date of the book was announced, I was one of those itching to grab a copy of this last and final (but hopefully not) installment about the boy wizard, and to know from there what really happened to him in his last battle with the Dark Lord.
Last Saturday (July 21) was it, when millions of HP fans (myself included; mine was actually given as a gift, but I had to personally get it from the bookstore. The thrill, man, the thrill) trouped to the bookstores all over the world to get their “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” hardbound copies. After two years of waiting, we will finally know if the Boy-Who-Lived will still survive when the final chapter of this book closes.
There are so many sites describing the story’s plot at length. Some forum sites have even discussed the meat of the story; but won’t that spoil the fun? But whatever, even days after the publication, many sites— like Wikipedia—have already revealed Harry’s lot. It’s quite not fair, really, especially to those who are still reading it, and for those who are still planning to get their own copies. It’s like eating the dessert first, before the main course. I mean, how can you enjoy your meal in this manner?
But a few hints won’t do any harm, I assume. So here’s my say.
The Deathly Hallows is a brilliant story; it is definitely what the entire HP fandom wants it to end. Oh, just tell me if you won’t like it that way, I can be reached through this address: vatski@gmail.com.
Before the book was out, previews and spoilers of it were already circulated in the Internet: That Harry would be killed, his bestfriend Ron would also die, et cetera. But do you really think JK Rowling would do that to her young readers? Never mind the older ones, they can cope up quick and well with whatever tragedies their heroes might encounter; it is the impact of the final story that matters. And how her fans would bleed for a magical ride that ended tragically.
Anyhow, JKR has also her own share of bleeding. It was while writing this book that she cried—probably not an easy parting with the series that brought her fame, and glory for making millions of kids and adults smiling and dreaming of playing their own Quidditch games, too, one day (for kids, I mean), I think. Well, she can always make some more, if she wants to.
The book opens with Voldemort’s ascending to power; hence, chapter one is titled The Dark Lord Ascending. Then it goes on to places that were once a part of Harry’s growing up years, and it is also like a reunion of almost all the people—both dead and alive—that have been a part of the book.
Of course, it includes Albus Dumbledore—that even though he is really dead, he is still a big part of the story—living clues to Ron, Hermione and Harry as to how to defeat the Dark Lord by destroying first his Horcruxes, known as objects where he keeps a part of his soul; and the story of the Deathly Hallows.
The tale about the Deathly Hallows sort of appears from nowhere, it was never mentioned in any of the previous HP installments, but proved to be the only way to rid of Voldemort. But only after all Horcruxes are destroyed. Quite confounding, yet interesting as it means additional tasks for the three main characters.
Their adventures are as usual not a walk in the park. They get scathed, burned, and almost meet Death itself on more than one occasion; but they are still able to make it to the last encounter with Voldemort, who has gained more power for the past months that he has gone into hiding. And not like the rest of the six books, Voldemort is more visible in this last installment, casually throwing Avada Kedavra curses to everyone that crosses his path be he/she an ally to him or not. He even casts this killing curse on Harry in two occasions.
But of course, good always triumphs over evil. Even already knocked up, Dumbledore’s own death is even justified here. And his trust until his death to the person whom we all love to hate is actually not put to nothing. I’m sure everyone knows who this person is. It was really sad to see him go, too; but this book reveals the good side of this wizard. It’s really good to know that part, really.
It was fun reading all seven books. JKR has already thanked her readers for having “stuck with Harry until the end,” but the deepest of gratitude should go to her not only for bringing Harry Potter to our lives but for keeping the Boy-Who-Lived living until the end. Thank you.

Our dog
i don't even know its name, that when it followed me this morning while i was walkin my way to where the trisikads are parked i could not order it to go back home like what is normally done to a dog-friend. so i only kept on saying "che!" to keep him away from me, and so it would not be run over by a trisikad i was riding in. but man, the thing followed me outside the block where we live, and down to where i was going--to the next village. i didn't know how to solve the matter, so i leapt from the 'sikad before the thing could even follow me to my next stopover. geez, what ever happened to it after that, i wonder. if it is my brother's dog, he likes to have pets, btw, that brother; and i lost it somewhere, i really dunno what's going on in the house right now. they may not be looking for that dog like looking for a lost treasure, but if that dog has been there for a while (most likely as it recognized me being an occupant of the house where it frequented) then i'll be damned if they would not still be talking about it when i get home tonight. or is it my fault? i did not ask it to join me while i was on my way to work! but dogs have a very good sense of smell, so i'm pretty sure it found its way back to our place after i left it somewhere. but if it did not, the better. i don't like dogs, anyway.

political nothing
I was glued on TV for a while just minutes ago while having my meal and I saw that interview with Sen. Bong Revilla: He was really having hard time figuring out what to say on the issue, like he could not blurt out Sen. Enrile's name. My god! Well, anyway, in that short interview, he was playing safe like his political career is dependent on his every word. For me, I have no problems with that…it's my seniors…but whatever the decision of the majority, I shall respect it... You know that sort of thing.
----
It's been made clear from the very start by the administration senators that they would like to give it again to their partymate Sen. Joker Arroyo; but Arroyo, for his part, said he is "disinterested" in any committees. But why not? During his stint as this committee's chair, since 2001, he was doing a good job (hence, their trust). Of course you can't take the fact that his being an administration senator puts colors to any course of action his committee will take once he sits as its chair. But it’s not actually he alone decides on the investigation, say, against the president herself; it’s the entire Senate—everyone in this body could always cry fould if he/she sees it fit to cry. And there's always the voting process: If they can't decide on anything. In this Congress more than half of its Senate seats are won by the opposition, which means they have the power of the numbers (although some of them, I'm afraid, seem to be going to the opposite direction) to overrule the administration senators if they perceive what they are plotting to achieve are un-Constitutional. That’s the beauty of democracy, but right now the opposition senators are over-exercising it, before they could even begin the real work.
---
but whether or not they get their “prize” for putting Villar to where he is right now, or for the mere fact that they are now the majority, we are still sure to hear Sen. Peter Cayetano's accusing the First Gentleman of hiding more wealth in any foreign places he could think of; Sen. Trillanes' mockery against the Arroyo government; more of Sen. Escudero's bombs; and whatever the rest of the opposition senators have been plotting all this time--Lacson, Honasan, and all the rest of Erap's minions are still on this game so we really can look forward to seeing more actions in the Senate to unfurl. Never mind giving to any of them (especially to the male Cayetano) the chairmanship! Now that we know they are working together for a common goal, how can anyone from this group, that we now know, too, are itching to depose the president, maintain a level of impartiality when handling this committee? Oh, I can feel what's going to happen now like it's all coming back to me…
Plus…
GMA 7 toured inside the offices of some of the Senators, and showed the grandiose display of furniture and fixtures inside. Senator Santiago has quite a good taste; while Sen. Madrigal is just so lavish, she probably forgot she wasn’t working for a rich corporation.
While for this guy, he said, he just wanted to have a “simple, spartan working office.” Really? So what's that plasma TV hanging in your wall? Does that present simplicity too? I’m referring to Sen. Escudero.
But I'm not trying to judge this trying-to-be humble lawmaker; I just want to keep what he says on record here in my blog so one day if he does this kind of thing again, I can look back here and lament the day I trusted my one vote to him.

This is really great!

more on Grey's
Grey's Anatomy's Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight are nominated for supporting actress and supporting actor in drama series, respectively, in this year's Emmy Awards. Katherine, although she was so pathetic playing Denny Duquette's stupid girlfriend one time, I think she deserves to win. She probably shed more tears than most of her co-starts in this show. If that's what is needed to win the award. LOL!
T.R., meanwhile, is no doubt a good actor. I like his innocent looks, although there was one episode in the show where he played the "sex machine." My point is he almost succeeded in making us believe he really is it. Nya!
The show also gets nominated for Drama Series, competing with Boston Legal, Heroes, House, Lost and Sopranos.
Well, good luck!

Harry Potter 7 finally!
Thanks, yaan, for mistaking July 20 as my birthday. Now I am a proud owner of this book. I'll be glad to welcome more mistakes in the future, 'cause that means another present from you. lol!

where's the good in a "holiday?"
but, yesterday's eating binge still took its toll. today. so i took an emergency day off slash sick leave. i was already thinking of spending the day watching the rest of grey's anatomy season 3 that the good juter lent me; however, i never even got the chance to turn my tv on for what would have been a mcsteamy morning (and afternoon, if my problematic eyes permit) bec my dear mother asked me to do some shopping. great! i am never fond of shopping, and i'm never good at running errands. but bec i'm half good, i gave her the chance of her life to torture me. good thing, my tummy was doing fine later in the morning.
and guess what, what she asked me buy were taxiful of goods including some dish cabinet and that cover for leftovers thingy that although they were just light to carry there were so bulky like i looked like an idiot carrying them around metro gaisano's five floors (kitchen dep of this store is on the 5th floor). i am not a mother yet, so why i'm doing a mother's job? i.am.never.gonna.be.a.mom.i.swear!
picking the grocery items without a list is another story. and only junk food items is another...so i would not be burdened by their weight considering chips and all its allies in the junk food section are not heavy for me. but does she know more than P2,000 w0rth of chippy, clover, etc, can fill a good number of grocery bags??? oh, mother! i did not know it, too; hence, i fell in your trap.
ingun ana kawayok manugo akong inahan. and to think 99 percent of the grocery items did not go to our own house. so where's the justice there? but i never complained because i already did the other night over something so petty that it irked her pretty good. so i had to be a good daughter today, i even helped her cleaned up her place even if i'm never good at dusting and stuff like that. i finished this special task two hours ago, and even if i'm free to watch grey's now, my body is already tired and my feet aching from constant walking and standing. dr. mcsteamy can wait, anyway. right now i'm going to The Spa for a complete body massage. yeah! but that's like P1000, more or less (more if you can pay more). katug nalang, 'day!

life and after it
Ana Escalante Neri (1978-2007)
Immortalizing Ana by this simple cross that bears some of her ashes. It is now in the depth of Lagundi Reef in barangay Poblacion, Talisay City. The scuba divers of TCSLAI brought it there this morning after Fr. Tito and Fr. Murphy had blessed it.
See the names? Her fellow divers will always be with her (apart from their personal things placed in this pot), so she won't be alone as she continues her exploration underwater. To Ana, although we never actually met, vaya con dios!
in the same note...
Feebee asked "what happens after life."
If we really have souls, and if there's no heaven nor hell for us to go, then my afterlife would be spent scuba diving wherever there are jaw-dropping scenes under (the place where the remains of Titanic and Alexandria would also be in my list); paragliding; treasure hunting; mummy-hunting in Eygpt kaha; or doing death-defying adventures I've been wanting to try but never had the chance to. In short, I'd still be enjoying my (after)life. But I'm not going yet.

ang sugilanon sa tuko ug sa tiki
naghisgot naman lang jud ta'g tuko, ato nalang sad og apilon ang mga tiki. ang mga yati, gapuno-puno lang sa kasagbot sa akong lawak! mura'g daghan pa ilang iti kaysa akong buhok nga nanglarot (as of last count, 23 nalang ni ka-lusok akong buhok sa o). ambot sad ani nila, ari man sad mag-estambay sa akong lawak nga pwede man ni sila moadto sa among silingan, mas maayo didto naa'y kanunay mosilhig sa ilang iti. di jud siya sakto.
sa pagbalhin namo niining dapita, upat na katuig ang milabay, wa jud ko kahimdum nagda mi og tiki ug tuko gikan sa among karaang gipuy-an. kay nahinumdum ko gamay pa ko kaniadto (mga 2 inches siguro), naa mi mga tuko, kalingawan man lang to og pasol sa akong mga ig-agaw nga mga wa'y lingaw, gamit ang taga nga gipan-an og ok-ok (ingun ana kabibo amo'ng clan). so kining tuko dia namo ron, sa silingan jud ni sigurado, ug abi kay wa man kaayo tawo didto, nibakwit taw'n ang talawan sa among payag. gaa'g chance, swerte man kuni ni'ng mga tuko. pero ang tiki? mura'g tig kaon ra jud ni sila sa mga insekto nga naglupad-lupad sa mga bombilya sa suga. mao ra! pero in fairness, magamit sad biya ni sila usahay hilabi na kung ensomyahon ko, pareha anang kanta nga "butiki sa kesame," ingun ana among show. kana kung gi-ensyomya sad sila, magtinutokay 'mi, pero og nangatog ang mga inahak, magsolo ra taw'n ko. katapusan.

the other side of me
The other week, I really got frustrated. As in very frustrated, fuming, that I was swearing repeatedly (although only those who got near me could hear and feel it), that I was still outraged even several minutes later. Until that moment, I actually did not know I could be that angry for that long. And for what? For a simple thing that I was expecting to have but never got! But that thing—although it was just a mere thing--was actually promised and, I believed, was already reserved to me. It is useless to be furious over petty stuff, I know. But it's that person's failure to honor her word that really got my nerve. Either I was just so overacting or it's already a sign of old age. Ggrr!
And just a few days ago. At Starbucks, the guard there was so loveable. He was just standing there too lazy to move his ass to clean off the table that my friend and I were about to use. A complete asshole! I would not have cared if the table had only some used cups and tissues in it, but it was almost dripping with water, definitely not something you would want to see if you wanted a relaxing stay in this place (its last occupant/s might have mistaken it as a lavatory or what). And the guard! He was just a few feet away from it, like waiting for it to naturally dry up! And when our order came we had no choice but to place it to our table amid all the mess there. I did repeatedly call for his attention, but not only was he too lazy he was also deaf! He even had the guts to turn his back on us. How dare him!! So instead of waiting for some natural drying up to happen, I got up to get a bunch of tissue papers to wipe the table myself, and seeing me do it he quickly moved his ass to do the job. Ghad! Good thing, as during our joint effort to de-mess the area, I got the chance to say something he very well deserved! I just could not help it. Wiping the small round table they have there is real easy, but seeing that guy totally ignoring his duties is just so irritating. I mean, I have nothing against guards. Just that, this coffee shop claims, "our coffee has made us known, but our people have made us famous." Ha!
God knows how I want to be nice to everyone. But I’m sure by now my God also knows I’m a total wreck when stirred.
