political nothing

Our Senators are still fighting as to whom the very powerful Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairmanship, that probes on government irregularities, should be entrusted to…

I was glued on TV for a while just minutes ago while having my meal and I saw that interview with Sen. Bong Revilla: He was really having hard time figuring out what to say on the issue, like he could not blurt out Sen. Enrile's name. My god! Well, anyway, in that short interview, he was playing safe like his political career is dependent on his every word. For me, I have no problems with that…it's my seniors…but whatever the decision of the majority, I shall respect it... You know that sort of thing.

It's been made clear from the very start by the administration senators that they would like to give it again to their partymate Sen. Joker Arroyo; but Arroyo, for his part, said he is "disinterested" in any committees. But why not? During his stint as this committee's chair, since 2001, he was doing a good job (hence, their trust). Of course you can't take the fact that his being an administration senator puts colors to any course of action his committee will take once he sits as its chair. But it’s not actually he alone decides on the investigation, say, against the president herself; it’s the entire Senate—everyone in this body could always cry fould if he/she sees it fit to cry. And there's always the voting process: If they can't decide on anything. In this Congress more than half of its Senate seats are won by the opposition, which means they have the power of the numbers (although some of them, I'm afraid, seem to be going to the opposite direction) to overrule the administration senators if they perceive what they are plotting to achieve are un-Constitutional. That’s the beauty of democracy, but right now the opposition senators are over-exercising it, before they could even begin the real work.

but whether or not they get their “prize” for putting Villar to where he is right now, or for the mere fact that they are now the majority, we are still sure to hear Sen. Peter Cayetano's accusing the First Gentleman of hiding more wealth in any foreign places he could think of; Sen. Trillanes' mockery against the Arroyo government; more of Sen. Escudero's bombs; and whatever the rest of the opposition senators have been plotting all this time--Lacson, Honasan, and all the rest of Erap's minions are still on this game so we really can look forward to seeing more actions in the Senate to unfurl. Never mind giving to any of them (especially to the male Cayetano) the chairmanship! Now that we know they are working together for a common goal, how can anyone from this group, that we now know, too, are itching to depose the president, maintain a level of impartiality when handling this committee? Oh, I can feel what's going to happen now like it's all coming back to me…

Plus…

GMA 7 toured inside the offices of some of the Senators, and showed the grandiose display of furniture and fixtures inside. Senator Santiago has quite a good taste; while Sen. Madrigal is just so lavish, she probably forgot she wasn’t working for a rich corporation.
While for this guy, he said, he just wanted to have a “simple, spartan working office.” Really? So what's that plasma TV hanging in your wall? Does that present simplicity too? I’m referring to Sen. Escudero.

But I'm not trying to judge this trying-to-be humble lawmaker; I just want to keep what he says on record here in my blog so one day if he does this kind of thing again, I can look back here and lament the day I trusted my one vote to him.

This is really great!
